Brain Research & Buddhism - How does Meditation function?
Panel Discussion with  Prof. Dr. Andreas K. Engel and Lama Ole Nydahl

Introduction: Dr. Peter Malinowski
Moderator: Guido Czeija (Magister)

Place: Audimax , Ruhr University, Bochum

With support of modern technology, brain activity may be closely observed  and it is possible to observe mind-activity from outside.  Buddhist meditation offers in opposition the detailed observation of mind from the inside.

In this panel discussion these two views are confronted. Prof. Andreas K. Engel, Director of the Institute for Neurophysiology, University Clinic in Hamburg renowned fort his work in the field of Awareness-Research and Lama Ole Nydahl, an  accredited western Lama, discuss awareness and coherency of Mind and Brain.

The second half of the evening is dedicated to influences of meditation on the brain. Newest studies show, that brain structure and –activity change sustainably under the influence of regular meditation. Exciting results of a study by Professor Engel, conducted with Lama Ole Nydahl as a subject, will be presented and discussed.

Questions will be taken afterwards and answered by the participants.
